Teflon's New Lounge

Hi,

Sure, come in, have a look around. Yep, that's right, we HAVE made a few changes about the place. Yeah we've got search bars now, YouTube linkage things, an email subscription button, a World News linkage bar, and my personal favourite, a language translation button!! Doesn't mean my pointless ramblings are gonna make any more sense, but at least it will be incessant waffle in YOUR language!

Hope you like it :D

Selamat Hari Raya Nyepi Tahun Baru Caka 1936 (Happy Balinese NY/Silent Day 1936)

Happy Balinese Nyepi Silent Day :)

It's the Balinese silent day celebration of Nyepi today. For all of us in Bali we are in lockdown, no-one is allowed outside on the streets, and the beaches and waves are empty. No lights will be on tonight and we are all being as quiet as possible, tip-toeing around our respective abodes.

Tomorrow is the first day of the Balinese New Year, 1936, and I'll be celebrating with a surf and a cup of peppermint tea :)

Have a great day everyone!

Surf Report - Padma Beach - Legian, Bali

Fun lazy 2-footers rolling through this morning. Beautiful morning to be in the water; sun shining, glassy waves. Crowded again though, but still nice just to be out there. Saw a school of big fish leaping out of the water, getting chased by a bigger fish no doubt.

Nyepi (day of silence) here in Bali tomorrow, so if you don't grab a wave today, you'll have to wait til 6am Tuesday.

Swell forecast is looking good for this week from Tuesday onwards.

Hope you're getting barrelled :)

Surf Report - Padma Beach - Legian, Bali

Glassy, playful waves this morning in the chest height range. There are 4 good banks at Padma at present, and it's no secret, there are plenty of punters out there having a dig!

Great chest-high waves yesterday too. Especially in the late afternoon. Lots of ripping local microgroms out there of both genders, great to see! No doubt more than a few of them will be making a few rupiah from surfing in a few years. Nice way to make a living :)

I was giving a surf lesson to a grom from Sumba for that sunset sesh, his first ever attempt to surf and he stood up first go! Unbelievable. The very first four waves/whitewater rides of his life and he stood up from start to finish, running the fins of the rented soft top right up into the sand on every ride. The kid is a natural, I didn't really even teach him anything, he just knew what to do instinctively. When he makes the tour, I'll be expecting a cut ;D

Anyway, hope you scored wherever you are. Forecast suggests we'll have fun waves in Bali again tomorrow, around head height+ at the swell magnets (Ulus, Nusa Dua, Balian), chest height for Legian and waist height for Kuta.

Good luck!

Surf Report - Kuta - Legian, Bali

Fun waist-high waves at Kuta today. Larger waist-chest high waves at Legian. I would provide photos, but I left my camera in my car back in Oz! What an amateur :)

Forecast is for rising swell tomorrow, sustaining over the weekend and into next week. Looks like we might get a solid pulse next Tuesday/Wednesday. Here's hoping!

In the meantime, here's a sequence of an anonymous chap enjoying a tasty late arvo runner at Ulus in October last year. Looks like he's halfway to Padang in the last shot! Enjoy :D

A few gems roll through at Ulus last October. And that's me tucking into a well-deserved (?) kelapa at Delpi's Warung down by the water :) All photos by Fanz and I on the trusty Lumix.

Surf Report - Gracetown + Injidup WA

Well what a spankingly fantabulous Sunday it has been down here in the beautiful south west of WA.

Was there swell? Yes. Was it onshore? Always. But the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the waves protected from a souwester were providing a few fun little gems to keep the masses sated.

I had a fun little surf with a good mate of mine at Inji Point. It was dishing up A-frame lefts and rights with a few sets breaking off the point, and despite being fairly small (blocked from the wind but also the swell), it was surprisingly fun!

After that fun little sesh I returned to Gracetown to enjoy a sunset beer on the rocks at North Point, when who should rock up but a be-logoed gangly young fella by the name of John-John Florence! After exiting the Gold Coast comp early I guess he decided to cruise over to WA to sample some of it's watery delights prior to the Margaret River Pro. He put on a good show too. Until he snapped his board. I guess his Hawaiian gear just ain't built for WA conditions ;D (No offence JJ, I'm sure it is and my assessment is not only hasty, ill-conceived and unnecessary, but also highly inaccurate :) See, Teflon knows how to suck up with the best of them.

More waves tomorrow, get out there!!

Teflon Goes To Work

Sorry about the foul language in the title folks, I'm not one to throw the "W" word around willy nilly, and I'm certainly not proud of it, but yes, this week I find myself at...well, u know where.

I'm currently up in the North West of WA mapping weed distributions (yes that is a job:) in a pretty spectacular place called Yarrie. Apologies here-to-forthwith, for blog posts probably won't be served up on a steaming platter of delicious goodness too frequently this week (are they ever on this site?:)

This weekend I'll get something cranking in the Teflon laboratory, promise :)

In the meantime, enjoy the solitude. It's a good week for thinking :)
