Don't worry, no secret spots mentioned here. So this is basically the back 20 :) Enjoy!!
1. Angola (Afr) - That new wave. Better than the old one (Skeleton Bay) coz it's longer and allows for turns as well as barrels.
2. Barra (Mex) - Epic when it's on. Was number 1 til Angola intervened.
3. Desert Point (Ind) - A glorified closeout. You gotta endure a 20-40 second barrel before she slaps you in the face like you deserved it. Thanks Deserts, you wily temptress..;)
4. Maccaronis (Ind) - There is no greater machine.
5. Restaurants (Fij) - Not bad.
6. Rifles (Ind) - Pretty good.
7. Gnaraloo (Aus) - Good luck!
8. Skeleton Bay (Afr) - Amazing. Google Earth uncovers a gem.
9. Supersuck (Ind) - Some cult followers claim it over Deserts. But if you've had it on the wrong tide you wouldn't! (And you wouldn't claim Deserts either!)
10. Flameballs (Mdg) - Holy flipping heck balls, one of the most beautiful things you'd ever see.
11. J-Bay (Afr) - Not bad.
12. North Point (Aus) - Gets good 4 times a year. But when she's on, she's on!
13. One Palm Point (Ind) - Amazing, until you need skin grafts..
14. Cloudbreak (Fij) - That big day last year during the Volcom Pro was one of the most epic days ever witnessed. Wow. Requires big kahunas.
15. Jaws (Haw) - Like Cloudbreak in that it can maintain amazing shape at a macking size.
16. P-Pass (Mic) - Gel blue gem of The Caroline Islands. If it was longer, it would be further up the list.
17. HT's (Ind) - So beautiful. That magic golden light photo from Indo Surf n Lingo (2008 edition) is the most perfect wave I've ever seen, and it's probably the greatest surf photo of all time. Wouldn't mind building a house there :)
18. G-land (Ind) - Formerly the best, the reef has apparently changed a bit over time, so she's not quite what she used to be, but the old girl still has her day! The Quiksilver G-land Pro '97 flick showcased some of the best waves, EASILY, ever seen in a contest. Occy's 10-pointer would make you sell up!
19. Padang-Padang (Ind) - Fickle like North Point, but oh she's a beauty when she's on!
20. Lagundri Bay (Ind) - The 2004 earthquake raised the reef, so now she kegs harder for longer. Backdrop is nice too :)
And that's it for now! I know this is a fun and highly debatable issue, so please feel free to comment in the comments box (you'll need a Google account to do this). Cheers!!
NB - It would appear there has been a notable ommission in the form of a little sand bottom left popularly known as MUNDAKA!! Someone dropped the ball in the lab. Sorry. It was probably Graham. Thus, Europe's favourite left gets a special mention, and you could probably squeeze it in there somewhere between Cloudbreak and One Palm. Thanks.
